Binnacle Covfefe

Sharon has repaired and modified the binnacle cover so that it now fits properly and covers the instrument pod I fitted. Took a bit of effort - it seems the original maker was having an off day, and center-lines were all off, corners were mismatched, etc. Anyway, it fits well now.

The Shortest Day

Yes it is, which makes daylight hours a bit of an issue. Here's a shot of the anchor chain with nice new fire-engine-red depth markings - taken in the dark. Really want some summer back. And some motivation.

Hang me in chains

Decided it was time to end-for-end the anchor chain, to spread the wear out. 100+ meters of 1/2" anchor chain weighs...a hell of a lot. Much sweating.

Lovely weather, until we pulled the chain out. Now we are waiting for it to dry enough so we can re-paint the depth markings.

Starboard anchor locker. Not too bad.

Enough of Doing Nothing

I've not posted in a little while. This is due to a combination of jet-lag, nasty virus, too busy at work, and good old fashioned just-plain-ran-out-of-steam-and-don't-give-a-crap. But now motivation is returning.

We have decided the winter work schedule is going to focus on finishing off all the cabins. Well, finishing off the master stateroom and the starboard cabin, we haven't actually even started on the port cabin. So it will be master stateroom first (paint, some varnish, some bits of woodwork), then the starboard cabin (some woodwork) and then the port cabin (go find somewhere else to live, Emma, we're tearing this sucker apart).

So, more scraping, sanding, varnishing, painting... Groundhog Day.

Above the port locker in the master stateroom. For some reason they decided to paint over the teak on the cabinside, when it is varnished everywhere else. Cleverly they applied a sealcoat to the wood before painting, so the paint comes off nice and clean.
