Pissed Pirates Partying

For the (probably) last sail before we put Kamalii to bed for winter we decided to have a theme - and what other theme could we possibly choose?!

A really fun day, and some stunning efforts in the costume department. And a beautiful day - hard to believe winter is here.

Autumn Sailing

A very mellow day sailing in light winds and calm seas. During which I forgot to take very many photos.

Back Into It

Been a bit quiet the last few weeks, away travelling and so on, but back into it now.

Today I cleared out the aft port quarter of the upper salon, where the original radio gear was located - because in 1958 the radio gear could double as a mooring if needed, it was that big. I have re-run a bunch of cables and outlets and started filling and repairing holes in the timbers. The plan was to line it with teak facing, and so "finish" the upper salon, but then Sharon pitched in: "You could build a big set of lockers in there, it would be great storage."

Naturally, my immediate reaction was, "Bugger that, that sounds like a whole heap of work."  And of course within 60 seconds I had multiple possible designs in my head and now I'm committed to building a big set of lockers.

Just thought I'd post about it, so now I can't back out...

Fill, strip, sand, varnish....and then build some lockers and shelving.

Easter 2018

For Easter Team Kamalii headed off to Great Barrier Island. A disappointing lack of wind was compensated for by some great weather and the chance to head around to the eastern side with it's great beaches. A relaxing weekend - not much sailing, but good fun.

Carpentry

The long-running saga of the "almost finished" master cabin continues. This weekend, having fitted in the new port side bulkhead, I have been making up all the teak trim for the shelf units on both sides of the cabin. I had about 75% of the original trim, but much of it was broken or pretty manky, so I have been cutting up old and new teak to make up a full set of trim.

This afternoon I have everything test-fitted in place. But still lots of work to do - now have to strip the varnish off all the old teak, have to sort out hardware for the small locker doors, still some painting to do on the port side, and of course varnish, varnish, varnish...

Starboard side.

Port side.

You missed the bow...

Officially Accredited Kamalii Photographer, Diana Diaz, took this cool shot from the masthead.

Next time you have to do it while we are under way, Diana. ;-)

A nice day of almost sailing

Headed out with friends yesterday, beautiful day, but the promised 15 knots of wind was hard to find. So after a few hours we packed it in and headed to....Tiri. Of course. A fun time.

From Dollars to Dust

Simon kindly helped me again to convert some expensive slabs of teak into sawdust, and as a byproduct I got some new trim mouldings for finishing off the lockers in the master stateroom - which still have not been painted...
