Four Years and One Day Before the Mast

One more coat to go. But I want to put one or two more coats over the whole thing before winter kicks in, so plenty more sling time to come yet. Also, still have to strip and varnish the base section, but that will be chipped away at over winter once we have the mainsail off.

Four Years Before the Mast

That's how long it seems, anyway.

I haven't posted for a bit, mainly because I've been  in Australia and/or a tropical cyclone has been beating the crap out of Auckland, so not much to write about.

Anyway, today I primed the bottom section of the mast...wohoo, almost there! I will get a few coats of gloss on tomorrow, and hopefully will have it done by next weekend. It's not going to be quite finished, the section from the sail cover to the base still has to be done, but we have to remove the mainsail to do that, so it will be something we chip away at over winter.

Sand, Varnish, Repeat...

Another day of it. The capping rail is done and now we are reassembling everything. I also did some more sanding and prep on the lower section of the main mast, after tomorrow it should be ready for varnishing. A big thanks to Stephanie for her excellent polishing skills today!

That's two thirds of the capping rail/bulwarks done. Hopefully we can get it all finished this summer, but there is sailing to be done...

Sharon polishes, Stephanie contemplates her next move... (Actually, too much gin.)

Getting there...

That's better...
